Hawi, Hawaii
On any given day in Hawi, there is a tingle in the air. A local girl playing the guitar and singing Hawaiian folk songs, a “Year-of-the-Rat” blessing of local businesses, Banyan trees marking the local post office, and a general smell of delicious Hawaiian flora… not to mention the best ice cream this side of the Mississippi (the best on the other side is made by my dad!) This is true Hawaii, once a thriving sugar town, now a native-saved throwback to simpler times. In the 70’s, when the sugar industry pulled out, this sleepy little town didn’t shut down. It’s people pulled together and the town continues it’s rekindling process today. There is strength in that kind of passion, and it inspires me. Hawi a nice day :)
